How We Got Started

Growing up, I was fortunate to have a family that valued travel. Even during tough times—like the 2008 recession—they always found a way to make at least one vacation happen each year. Those experiences shaped my love for exploring the world, and as I grew into adulthood, I knew I wanted to keep that tradition alive.

While in college, I was diagnosed with autism. For the first time, I began to understand that the sensory sensitivities and constant overstimulation I had always experienced weren’t just part of everyday life for everyone—they were part of my neurodivergence. I spent countless hours learning what that meant for me and how I could adapt. I realized it wasn’t that I couldn’t do the things I loved—it just meant I had to do them a little differently.

I thought I had figured things out—until a sudden health crisis changed everything. After months of medical testing, appointments, and uncertainty, I was diagnosed with a rare genetic neurological and musculoskeletal disorder. At one point, I wondered if I’d ever be able to travel again—how could I explore the world when even cooking dinner felt impossible?

But with time, determination, and physical therapy, I found a new normal. And when I was ready to travel again, I faced a mountain of planning, accommodations, and accessibility concerns. I remember thinking, How could the average family—especially one with a member who has special needs—possibly navigate all of this? The truth is, many can’t. That realization lit a fire in me.

Doctor’s Orders Travel was born from my lived experiences—of joy, frustration, growth, and healing. My mission is simple: to make the inaccessible accessible. I help families like mine plan cruise vacations, Disney getaways, and special needs travel with compassion, care, and firsthand knowledge. Everyone deserves a vacation. I’m here to help you take yours—without the stress.
